AC Milan 'keeper Diego Lopez: Torres will be 'more useful' than Balotelli this season

AC Milan goalkeeper Diego Lopez is doing his best to endear himself to his new club, even it entails making rather ludicrous statements.

The Spanish shot-stopper, who arrived in Italy this summer from Real Madrid, told members of the media on Thursday that the club is stronger after selling Mario Balotelli and replacing him with a pylon Fernando Torres.

Balotelli, Milan's most talented player and leading scorer last season with 14 goals, was sold to Liverpool this summer in a deal that netted the Italian side £16 million ($26 million).

In his stead comes Torres, whose career has been derailed by injuries and a subsequent drop in form that has seen him go from one of the world's most feared strikers to one of the most ridiculed.

Despite the fact that he only notched 5 goals in 29 Premier League appearances last season, Lopez believes his compatriot will be able to get the Rossoneri back amongst the best teams in the country.

"We want to get Milan back to where they belong and for this Torres is going to be more useful than Balotelli," Lopez, 32, said. "He's a big signing for Milan and he's done great things in his career. His job is to score goals. He's a big player -- already tried and tested, renowned, quick and strong."

By the looks of it, Diego Lopez is that friend you have who drafts a fantasy team based solely on picking players who were great five years ago, and now remain relevant based on name alone.
