The Cleveland Cavaliers search for pieces to solidify the periphery of a roster that now features LeBron James reportedly included a meeting with veteran free agent Chauncey Billups on Tuesday.

Billups has been weighing whether to return as an active competitor, join the coaching ranks or head to a front office, all of which are considered viable options for the 38-year-old. It's unclear if the meeting with the Cavaliers was to discuss a potential roster spot or a role on the coaching staff.

If you're a Cavs fan, you should probably hope it's the latter. While Billups brings a wealth of experience and was, until this past season, a threat from long range, his utility on the floor has declined a great deal over the past few seasons, when he's even managed to play.

The Cavs also aren't really wanting for shooting, and while it's tough to get a handle on their roster until any Kevin Love trade does or does not happen, any machination of said trade would still leave them in need of rim protection - probably not shooting.

With spots available at the end of the roster, taking fliers on young bigs seems a more prudent strategy, moreso than adding aging veterans, a trap the Cavs fell into previously with James and one the Miami Heat replicated at times.

Coach Chauncey, though, sitting alongside Tyronn Lue and teaching Kryie Irving and Dion Waiters? Sign us up for that.
