Rashard Lewis may have had his one-year, $1.4 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks taken off the table when it was determined he needed knee surgery, but it may not have stunted a potential future with the Mavericks altogether.

While the team moved on to another forward target, signing Al-Farouq Aminu to a two-year deal, Lewis could find his way to Dallas following knee surgery, according to a report from the Star-Telegram.

Where, exactly, Lewis would fit at a later date, assuming he comes out of the surgery in good health, is unclear. The Mavericks have 14 guaranteed contracts and one non-guaranteed contract and an undetermined deal for Ivan Johnson already on their books, meaning they don't have the roster spots for Lewis at present. They are, however, safely below the luxury tax line should they choose to cut ties with two players to make room for the 34-year-old.

The takeaways here are probably that the Mavericks aren't going to be complacent now that their roster is full, and Lewis should have suitors even following surgery.
