The Dallas Mavericks won't take a chance on veteran Rashard Lewis after the forward discovered he will need knee surgery during his physical.

The Mavs voided his one-year contract upon receiving the news, according to Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports

The team didn't reveal Lewis was waived in a statement, though president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson offered his thoughts:

Lewis, 34, spent two seasons in a reserve role with the Miami Heat. He was set to make the veteran's minimum $1.4 million with Dallas in 2014-15.
