Fabio Borini joins Liverpool on pre-season tour, further delaying Sunderland move

Liverpool is looking to sell Fabio Borini, and Sunderland is more than willing to oblige.

A fee has even been agreed upon, with the clubs coming to terms on a transfer widely thought to be worth £14 million.

There's only one problem: Borini himself seems intent on staying at Anfield and fighting for a place in the squad.

The Italian striker, 23, has joined the Reds on their pre-season tour of the United States, further delaying a permanent move to Sunderland, where he scored 10 goals playing on loan last season.

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet said on Sunday that he hopes to open talks with the striker over personal terms of the deal, but this move suggests Borini is more interested in remaining with his parent club.

The final match of Liverpool's pre-season adventure is on Aug. 2, when the club takes on Italian side AC Milan at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. It seems more than likely that any deal involving Borini will need to be completed after that contest.
