Hurricanes re-sign Gerbe to a 2-year, $3.5 million contract

Newly minted Carolina Hurricanes general manager Ron Francis' business Tuesday didn't end with the inking of veteran defenseman Ron Hainsey.

Gerbe, who will make $1.5 million in 2014-15 and $2 million in 2015-6, proved to be a valuable acquisition for the Hurricanes last season, notching 16 goals and 31 points in 81 games.

In 269 games, split between the Hurricanes and Buffalo Sabres, the 5-foot-5 American amassed 45 goals and 103 points.
