Report: Andrew Wiggins meeting with Nike, despite earlier adidas rumors
Perhaps it's leverage, perhaps it's due diligence, but Andrew Wiggins is meeting with Nike, and it's kind of a big deal.
This, of course, is surprising but shouldn't be. It's surprising because early-season reports indicated that adidas was set to make Wiggins a very rich man with a ridiculous contract once he reached the NBA. It shouldn't be, however, because Nike has long seemed like a more likely home for Wiggins - some were shocked he even went to an adidas school - and many refuted the early adidas reports.
There are a lot of different, not-all-that-important angles to consider here, like whether Wiggins' drop in status from "consensus No. 1" to "consensus top-three" hurt his market power, or if the major deal adidas gave Damian Lillard ate into the Wiggins budget.
It's interesting, however, and the shoe brand wars are always a fun aftershock of the NBA draft.
