Report: Jim Rutherford will be announced as new Penguins GM

According to TSN's Bob McKenzie, the Pittsburgh Penguins' search for a new general manager is over.

Jim Rutherford ran the Carolina Hurricanes for 20 years, dating back to the franchise's beginnings as the Hartford Whalers. He built the team that won the Stanley Cup in 2006.

As a player, Rutherford pioneered the trend of goaltenders commissioning elaborate mask decorations during his days with Detroit when a friend painted a pair of Red Wings logos on his mask prior to a game in 1976.

If McKenzie's information is correct, it means Pierre McGuire will remain on the air reciting players' junior teams during NBC broadcasts rather than rejoin an NHL franchise for the first time since 1996.
