Free agent Alex to join Milan from Paris Saint-Germain

MILAN - Paris Saint Germain defender Alex is set to sign for Milan, the player said on the Serie A club's official Twitter page Thursday.

Alex, 31, is out of contract with the French champions and has been snapped up by a Milan side looking to rebuild following a second successive season that was well below expectations.

A day before his medical, Alex was pictured in Rossoneri colours and said: "I'm very emotional to be joining Milan, I'm ready to give my all."

Alex could partner another Frenchman, Adil Rami, in Milan's central defence -- if the Serie A giants operate their right to buy the on-loan Valencia player.

PSG, one of several clubs sanctioned for breaching UEFA's fair-play rules, have recently signed another Brazilian defender, David Luiz, from Chelsea.

Alex, who in Brazil played with Santos before stints in Europe with PSV Eindhoven then Chelsea, is a former Brazil international who played with the Selecao from 2003 to 2008.

Milan, who failed to qualify for Europe next season, are expected to also sign PSG striker Jeremy Menez, who is also out of contract.
