Carmelo Anthony will face no shortage of suitors once he opts out of his contract and pursues free agency in July, as he's indicated he'll do.

But one franchise that reportedly won't be lining up for Anthony's services is the Los Angeles Lakers, who are in the midst of a rebuild that isn't expected to peak until the 2015 offseason, when Kevin Love, LaMarcus Aldridge, Rajon Rondo, and Marc Gasol, among others, become free agents.

Per New York Post:

The Lakers have cap space, but sources maintain they aren’t too interested in Anthony as a fit with Kobe Bryant. Nor is Lakers president Jeanie Buss enthralled with stealing Anthony from Jackson, her fiancé.

The report marks a significant turn of events from last year, when the Lakers were reportedly eyeing Anthony during the offseason. Perhaps their worst season is franchise history forced the Lakers to realize that draining their cap space on 'Melo is a risky move with no guarantees of paying off.

Anthony's future hinges largely on how other suitors are able to handle their cap-space issues. The Chicago Bulls and Houston Rockets are reportedly "prime candidates," but both franchises need to get under the salary cap in order to make it worth it for Anthony to come aboard. The Dallas Mavericks are in a similar situation.

On Friday, Anthony reportedly had dinner in New York with a group of six people to discuss his impending free agency. Among those in attendance were his Creative Artists Agency agent Leon Rose and CAA adviser William Wesley.
