Manchester United sign Evra to 1-year extension

The speculation regarding Patrice Evra's future with Manchester United came to an end Friday.

Evra looked like a certain departure from the Red Devils this summer under former manager David Moyes, coupled with rumours of the club's interest in Southampton full-back Luke Shaw, but with the arrival of new manager Louis van Gaal comes a new contract.

It was reported earlier in the week that van Gaal was keen on keeping the 33-year-old, especially after the departures of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand on the back-line, in an effort to provide the team and its young group of players with veteran leadership.

Evra's been with the club since 2006 when he signed from AS Monaco, and appeared in 33 Premier League games last season and eight UEFA Champions League games where he totaled two goals.
