Damien Duff, John Arne Riise and Mahamadou Diarra were among the casualties of Fulham's relegation from the Premier League as the west London club announced a string of departures on Friday.

Republic of Ireland winger Duff, Norway left-back Riise and Mali midfielder Diarra have all been released, with Steve Sidwell, Giorgos Karagounis and John Heitinga also among nine players who have left Fulham following their slide into English football's second tier.

Former Real Madrid star Diarra had been with Fulham since 2012, ex-Chelsea star Duff joined in 2009, while Sidwell moves on after moving to Craven Cottage, initially on loan from Aston Villa, in January 2011.

Heitinga impressed during his 14-game spell after signing from Everton in January, but he was unable to prevent the Cottagers slumping into the Championship for the first time in 13 years.

Greek veteran midfielder Karagounis was also axed along with Derek Boateng, Matthew Briggs and Neil Etheridge.
