VIDEO: Kings defeat Raptors in first meeting since trade after bizarre late call

Welcome to office, Adam Silver!

The new boss attended his first NBA game as commissioner on Wednesday, and he chose an interesting one. The Toronto Raptors were visiting the Sacramento Kings in the first meeting between the teams since their big December trade (see the post below for more detail).

It was an ugly one with some late controversy. Sorry, commish.

The Raptors came out terribly flat, failing miserably on both ends of the floor for three quarters. Credit the Kings for being aggressive and taking advantage of an endless supply of free throws (51 attempts on the night) but the 92-72 Kings advantage entering the fourth was far more a result of the Raptors play.

As they're wont to do, the Raptors stormed back in the fourth. It was an unlikely attempt, to be sure, but they trimmed the lead to six with 25 seconds to play.

And then Kyle Lowry had what should have been a four-point play but was bizarrely called an offensive foul. So Lowry ran away without saying a word, oddly earning his second technical foul of the game and thus getting ejected from the game.

We think it's a pretty clear mistake, but you be the judge:

If you're the Raptors, you're angry you even had to make such a comeback against a team you firmly believe you're better than. It shouldn't have come down to this.

But it did, and if that call goes the other way it could be a two-point game with 25 seconds left. It's an entirely different ballgame.

As it is, Rudy Gay and the Kings get the first laugh and the Raptors will have to wait until March 7 to try and exact some revenge.

Here's how the seven players involved in the trade stacked up:

Player MIN PTS RBS AST
Rudy Gay 43 24 10 3
Quincy Acy 20 2 1 1
Aaron Gray DNP CD 0 0 0
Greivis Vasquez 26 5 2 4
Patrick Patterson 23 14 4 3
Chuck Hayes 17 5 5 3
John Salmons 16 0 1 0
