Tracy McGrady to pursue his baseball dreams with the Sugar Land Skeeters

So, Tracy McGrady wasn't playing around - he's giving baseball a shot. This is actually happening. With the independent Atlantic League's Sugar Land Skeeters. No, really. McGrady's going to pitch for the Sugar Land Skeeters. Say it out loud.

The Skeeters released a statement confirming McGrady's lofty aspirations:

"Tracy McGrady is one of the most elite athletes of this era and we appreciate his interest in pursuing a life-long dream with the Sugar Land Skeeters and the Atlantic League. While the Atlantic League is considered the highest level of baseball outside of Major League Baseball, McGrady has demonstrated skill, determination and diligence during his training program at Constellation Field. We look forward to monitoring his progress."

So do we.

We have to admit, though, that we're weary when it comes to McGrady's commitment to baseball. Witness:

April 13, 2010. When Ricky Romero was still a big-league pitcher. Then-White Sox right fielder Alex Rios broke up his no-no with a two-run home run in the eighth inning. The point is: McGrady has no excuse for leaving.
