Report: Sixers waive Kwame Brown and Darius Morris

In a somewhat surprising move, the Philadelphia 76ers have reportedly waived veteran center Kwame Brown and third-year guard Darius Morris.

Brown is in the second year of a two-year, $5.8 million contract. A former No. 1 overall pick, the 31-year old is yet to appear in a game for Philadelphia this season.

His release is a bit surprising given that his contract is guaranteed. It also could have been used for salary-matching in trades.

Morris' release is surprising because he's been receiving regular run. The 22-year old has appeared in all 12 Sixers games, averaging 16.1 minutes. He's averaged 6.9 points and 2.6 assists while shooting 41.7 percent on threes.

In short, he seems like exactly the type of player a rebuilding team should have on its roster - young, somewhat productive, and with a very team-friendly contract (non-guaranteed through 2016-17).

Philadelphia's roster is now at 13. Coach Brett Brown indicated shortly after the report surfaced that the team wants the flexibility of open roster spots:
