Knicks waive Digou and Powell; Smith and Murry to make the team?

The New York Knicks trimmed their roster from 20 to 18 on Friday, waiving power forwards Josh Powell and Ike Diogu.

Both players have been out of the league in recent years and are 30 years old.

The Knicks still have to make at least three more cuts by Monday. There are 12 guaranteed contracts on the roster, leaving up to three spots (and at least one) up for grabs between the remaining six players on non-guaranteed deals.

If the beat writer speculation is correct, J.R. Smith's brother Chris Smith, impressive D-Leaguer Toure' Murry and former Golden State Warrior and Atlanta Hawk Jeremy Tyler could make the squad.

Murry, in particular, should have a good case, as he's averaged 10.2 points in five preseason games.

If those three make the team, that would leave Cole Aldrich, C.J. Leslie and Chris Douglas-Roberts out in the cold.
