Szczesny would 'love to be back' at Arsenal

Wojciech Szczesny is enthusiastic about the prospect of returning to Arsenal this summer when his second season-long loan at Roma comes to an end.

The Polish goalkeeper was last a regular for the Gunners in the 2014-15 season, but surrendered his place between the sticks to David Ospina after he made a series of high-profile mistakes and was reportedly found smoking in the showers after a match at Southampton.

Two-and-a-half years on from his dropping, Szczesny thinks he may get a second shot in north London.

"I'm happy here (at Roma). I feel that I'm growing as a goalkeeper, but for me the time to make a decision will come in the summer," Szczesny told BT Sport, according to ESPN FC's Mattias Karen.

"For now I'm an Arsenal player, so as soon as my loan finishes I have to come back and I've always said I'd love to be back there. But what will happen definitely won't be decided now, but in a month or two months' time."

Szczesny's form has been impressive. The 27-year-old's exploits have helped Roma to the second-best defensive record in Serie A, and the club still has slim hopes of capturing the Scudetto at Juventus' expense.

"I came here after a terrible season," he said of his 2015 move to the Italian capital. "I was in a bad moment. It was a good chance for me to relaunch my career."

There could be a vacancy for him at Arsenal, with Ospina, 28, potentially seeking first-team football elsewhere and 34-year-old Petr Cech sometimes looking shaky in goal.

Arsenal is trying to hound down Liverpool or Manchester City for a place in the top four, and faces Sunderland and Everton to round off its Premier League season. The Gunners then contest the FA Cup final against Chelsea on May 27.
