David Cutcliffe will remain at Duke for the foreseeable future, as the school has inked the head coach to a contract extension through June 2021.

"Simply put, Duke University is terribly honored and very proud to have one of the truly pinnacle football coaches in the country leading the Blue Devil program into the next decade," athletic director Kevin White said in a statement. "To be sure, what Coach Cutcliffe has accomplished over nine seasons at Duke is nothing short of extraordinary!"

Cutcliffe was hired as the Duke frontman in 2007, and has led the program to 52 wins over his nine seasons, 42 more than the Blue Devils totaled in the eight years before his appointment.

The extension keeps Cutcliffe at the school two years past the June 2019 end of his previous contract, which was signed in 2012.

Duke opens the 2017 campaign on Sept. 2 against North Carolina Central.
