Weird Week in Football: And the Oscar goes to ...

Every Monday, theScore will highlight the most outlandish moments from the wacky, sometimes daft, and perennially entertaining world of football. Here's what made us smile - or cringe - on the pitch this past week.

With Hollywood failing to capture the imagination of late with releases like "Fast & Furious 23: Mom Made Meatloaf Again" and something called "The Boss Baby" which is presumably about the perils of undocumented youth labour, footballers picked up the slack with an array of melodramatic flops.

Let's cut to the chase and dive in for another installment of the Weird Week in Football:

Sanchez shoulders blame for theatrics

Looking to help the final minutes of last weekend's clash with Premier League holder Leicester City at the Emirates tick down, Arsenal attacker Alexis Sanchez tried his hand at a post-playing career in acting after Foxes' full-back Christian Fuchs whipped a throw-in at the Chilean international.

Sanchez was then lambasted in the press, even after posting a tweet of the apparent injury sustained from Fuchs' effort ...

... And Leicester defender Robert Huth got in on the fun, mocking Sanchez's shortcomings with a tweet of his own. It would appear that the towering German centre-back quickly recovered from scoring the decisive own-goal as Arsenal secured the three points to maintain its slim top-four hopes.

Surely Sanchez's dramatics were no worse than Marcus Rashford's swan dive against Swansea City.

Then of course there was Leroy Sane's effort Sunday against Middlesbrough.

And while the Premier League led the cause for simulation standards, Roma's Kevin Strootman gave it the old college try Sunday in the Rome derby against Lazio.

Droll doll honours Messi kit skit

Children have been named in his honour, statues sculpted in his image, and now, Lionel Messi's 500th Barcelona goal and subsequent celebration in a crucial El Clasico victory has been paid tribute with an action figure.

The toy, which is an accurate representation of the Argentine attacker, if only because of its size, seems to have omitted Messi's beard, tattoos, and facial resemblance.

Orient supporters sit in to display disgust

Angry that their side had been relegated to non-league football, Leyton Orient fans took to the Brisbane Road pitch to express their displeasure during Saturday's clash with Colchester United.

A chorus of "Becchetti out!" greeted embattled Italian owner Francesco Becchetti before O's supporters sat on their rears to the tune of "Sit down for the Orient!" After stewards needed 40 minutes to clear the pitch, play resumed, with Orient losing 3-1 ahead of next season's date with the National League.

El Conejo crashes Cruz Azul's party

On Mexican soil, 44-year-old undersized shot-stopper Oscar "El Conejo" Perez is a legend of epic proportions, and the on-loan Pachuca star added another highlight to his CV during Saturday's Clausura clash with Cruz Azul.

Up for the corner in the dying minutes of a tilt with his parent club, Perez headed home the equaliser.

With modern football becoming a flavorless affair where players insist on not celebrating against their former clubs, Perez took convention and spun it on its head, praising his effort like a madman who had just joined the brotherhood of 'keepers with goals.

Somewhere, David James is smiling whilst digging through his sofa for a few quid.
