Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes is expected to be selected Thursday in the first 10 picks of the 2017 NFL Draft, league sources told Matthew Fairburn of Syracuse.com.

The Kansas City Chiefs are believed to have a strong interest in Mahomes and have entertained the idea of trading up to acquire him, adds Fairburn. The Houston Texans, who pick 25th overall, have also been strongly linked to Mahomes.

Mahomes entered the pre-draft process as an expected second- to third-round pick, but his arm strength and athleticism has vaulted him into the first-round conversation.

He will be competing with Mitchell Trubisky, Deshaun Watson, and DeShone Kizer to be among the first quarterbacks selected.
