Jose Mourinho shared both good and bad news in the buildup to Thursday's Manchester derby, ruling midfield dynamo Paul Pogba out of the marquee matchup while confirming Antonio Valencia and Ander Herrera are fit to play.

Pogba limped off the pitch in the 90th minute of United's clash against Burnley on the weekend. The specifics of the injury are not clear. Michael Carrick, who has made just 14 Premier League starts this season, could replace the world's most expensive player in Mourinho's XI at the Etihad.

Herrera has been struggling to stay fit over the past month, picking up a knock at Turf Moor as well, but his availability is a huge boost for the injury-plagued side.

United lost both Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo to season-ending knee ligament damage in the Europa League last week. Phil Jones and Chris Smalling remain on the sidelines with long-term ailments until May.
