Ex-Auburn coach Tuberville won't run for Alabama governor in 2018

After much speculation, former Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville has decided not to make a run at becoming Alabama's governor in 2018.

"Mr. Tuberville decided this morning the timing for him to enter governor's race is not right," Tripp Skipper, aid to Tuberville, told ABC-33/40 in Alabama. "He feels led to pursue other opportunities."

The 62-year-old coached Auburn from 1999-2008, leading the Tigers to an undefeated season in 2004. He has since coached at Texas Tech and Cincinnati, resigning from his post with the Bearcats after last season.

Tuberville has no political experience, but was seriously considering entering the race, even loaning himself $100,000 for his campaign in late March.

"I'm not doing it just to have a job, and I'm not doing it for ego," Tuberville told Joseph Goodman of AL.com in March. "If I do it, I truly want to help people because I have seen a lot of things in this state that can be improved."
