They may both be different players than they've been in recent seasons - one is morphing into a traditional No. 9, while the other is slowly becoming less an electric winger and more a cerebral playmaker - but Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi remain the undisputed stars of world football, the best two players on the planet who, despite advancing age, still refuse to relinquish their positions atop the mountain.

With Real Madrid and Barcelona set to renew their renowned rivalry at the Santiago Bernabeu, many eyes will be on the two marquee protagonists. As always, the world will look back on the contest and ask which of the two came out on top.

Since the Portuguese scoring machine made his opulent move to the Santiago Bernabeu in 2009, here's how the world's two best players stack up against one another in El Clasico:

Cristiano Ronaldo Lionel Messi
26 Matches 27
16 Goals 15
7 Wins 12

If history is any indication, Ronaldo could very well win the individual battle, but his little Argentine peer may ultimately win the war.
