Watch: Iglesias' slip-up helps Rays walk off

Detroit Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias has made so many memorable plays in his career. This one, much to his presumed chagrin, is one of them.

With the Tigers clinging to a one-run lead with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth Wednesday, closer Francisco Rodriguez coaxed a grounder to second off the bat of Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Logan Morrison, an ostensible double-play ball. As he went to turn what would've been a game-ending double play, though, Iglesias tripped on second base, fell to the ground on the bag, and uncorked a wild throw that allowed both Peter Bourjos and Kevin Kiermaier to scamper home and give the Rays an improbable 8-7 win at Tropicana Field.

"Interesting ball game, to say the least,'' Rays manager Kevin Cash said.

To add injury to insult, Iglesias took a knee to the jaw on the play courtesy of Brad Miller, who bolted for second on Morrison's grounder, and was being evaluated by medical personnel after the game.

"It was an odd play to end the game," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus told Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press. "Nine times out of 10, that's a double play that gets turned but Iggy kind of hit second base awkwardly and fell. It's just one of those things that you can't predict and occasionally happens."
