CFL won't let teams sign Justin Cox after alleged domestic assault

CFL commissioner Jeffrey Orridge will refuse to honor any team-player contract signed by defensive back Justin Cox, who was arrested Tuesday for an alleged incident of domestic violence.

Cox was property of the Saskatchewan Roughriders until Wednesday, when the club released him following the charge of assault causing bodily harm. The 24-year-old started 15 games in his rookie season last year.

An injured woman described as an "intimate partner" of Cox called police to report an assault Sunday, according to the Regina Leader-Post.

Cox has been tied to domestic violence in the past. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of trespassing after police were called to an alleged domestic dispute involving him and his girlfriend at the time in 2014, and found her with head injuries. He was then suspended for the final three games of his Mississippi State career.

Wednesday afternoon, Cox appeared to tweet about his current situation.
