Real Madrid has been synonymous with the Champions League semi-finals for much of the last decade, and Tuesday's controversial victory over Bayern Munich - a 4-2 triumph in extra time that helped Los Blancos earn a 6-3 win on aggregate - saw the club set a new tournament record with a seventh consecutive appearance in the last four of the competition.

Madrid, who got the benefit of some questionable officiating on the day - two of Cristiano Ronaldo's three tallies were offside - will be hoping the new semi-final standard isn't the only record set by the club this season.

No team in the modern era of the Champions League has ever captured the coveted trophy in two straight seasons, and by virtue of Tuesday's breathless win, Zinedine Zidane's men are still alive with their bid to retain the crown.

Los Blancos, joined by city rival Atletico in the final four, will learn its semi-final opponent during Friday's draw; Barcelona-Juventus and Monaco-Borussia Dortmund are the remaining ties that will round out the quartet.
