West Virginia's Holgorsen: Florida transfer Grier is 'as good as advertised'

After sitting out last year due to a suspension and NCAA transfer regulations, Will Grier is set to shine as quarterback at West Virginia.

Saturday was the former Florida star's first chance to see game action as a member of the Mountaineers with the annual spring game taking place in Morgantown, W.Va.

It's safe to say that head coach Dana Holgorsen was suitably impressed with the performance.

"He's as good as advertised," Holgorsen said to reporters after the game. "I like the kid's demeanor, he's got complete control of the huddle."

Grier came to Florida as a highly ranked recruit and starred in his only season as Gators starter in 2015. He threw for 1,204 yards and 10 touchdowns before being suspended for a year for failing a drug test after just six games. He would eventually transfer to West Virginia, and looks to be a quick study in Holgorsen's spread-based offense.

"He's got a really good idea of what we want to do offensively, his accuracy is outstanding." Holgorsen added. "The one thing you can't see right now because we're protecting him is his ability to keep the play alive with scrambles and some quarterback-run game. He's better at that then you think. He's got such a good arm you think he's just a pocket guy, but he can move around and make some plays."

West Virginia expects Grier to be eligible for the first game of the 2017 season, although the final ruling from the NCAA has yet to be rendered. Regardless of when he takes the field, it appears the Mountaineers are in good hands with him at the quarterback spot.
