One of the more intriguing storylines of this year's NFL draft is the draft spot for controversial running back Joe Mixon.

With little more than two weeks before opening night of the draft, teams are projecting the Oklahoma product as a late third-round pick, according to Peter King of The MMQB.

Mixon was a heavily recruited, five-star athlete in high school, but he assaulted a female college student in 2014 when he was caught on camera punching her in the face.

The league has drawn a hard line against players who have committed domestic assault or violence against women. For example, Ray Rice has yet to play a down since he was indefinitely suspended for assaulting his then-fiancee in a casino elevator. Former kicker Josh Brown was released from the New York Giants in 2016 after new information about a history of domestic violence was disclosed.

The NFL also did not invite Mixon to participate in the scouting combine in March.
