It would appear that dominating the Scottish top flight has its perks.

Just ask Brendan Rodgers, who on Friday was handed a new four-year contract by Glasgow giant Celtic after leading the club to an utterly commanding 48th league title.

Celtic announced the deal with a statement on its website, adding that the former Liverpool boss' new terms will run through June 2021.

"Brendan has made a huge impact at Celtic already. He's an outstanding manager and we believe he is one of the best coaches in Europe, if not world football, and we're delighted that he has committed his future to Celtic," club chief executive Peter Lawwell said.

In his first campaign at Celtic Park, Rodgers has led The Hoops to 38 domestic matches unbeaten on the bounce ahead of a Scottish Cup semi-final date with rival Rangers the last week of April. The Northern Ireland-born gaffer has also booked the club a spot in next season's Champions League group stage and guided it to a 16th Scottish League Cup triumph over Aberdeen in November

With a 23-point gap on the second-place Dons, Rodgers can now focus on the future.

"We have a built a connection at the football club and that will be important going forward," Rodgers said Friday.

"A lot more to do and achieve, an exciting period for the club."
