Georgetown grants 4-star G Tremont Waters full release

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Georgetown has granted four-star guard Tremont Waters a release from his National Letter of Intent.

"After a lengthy and a very-well thought out process, I wanted to take this time to thank Georgetown University for granting me my full release, allowing me to re-open my recruitment to all schools," Waters wrote in a Twitter post.

Waters reportedly asked the Hoyas to free him on March 11, roughly two weeks before John Thompson III was fired as head coach.

The 5-foot-11 Waters is ranked by ESPN as the eighth-best point guard prospect in the country, and the 33rd-best recruit overall.

The New Haven, Conn., native holds scholarship offers from Duke, Indiana, Kentucky, and other notable programs. New Georgetown coach Patrick Ewing has indicated he still plans to pursue Waters and convince him to recommit to the program.
