UCLA's Rosen returns to practice after 5 months on shelf

Josh Rosen is back on the field.

The UCLA quarterback participated in his first spring practice of the year Tuesday, after spending the previous five-plus months on the shelf due to a shoulder injury.

"I felt really good," Rosen told reporters, according to Kyle Bonagura of ESPN. "It's been awhile since I've played football. I've been throwing routes throughout the winter during the rehab process, but it's cool to do it full speed with all the guys on the field."

Rosen, who'll enter the 2017 season as one of the top draft prospects at his position, threw for 1,915 yards with 10 touchdowns and five interceptions last season before sustaining the injury. He underwent a season-ending procedure in early November, where a soft-tissue injury was found to be the mysterious ailment plaguing the Bruins' star.

"He did not look like there was anything bothering him," head coach Jim Mora said of Rosen's first practice. " ... I didn't notice him favoring anything or wincing or doing anything. He looked normal. It was good to see."

UCLA will play its spring game April 29, while the Bruins will open the regular season Sept. 3 against Texas A&M.
