Skrine believes media will decimate Jets if they rebuild

New York Jets cornerback Buster Skrine rejected the notion that the franchise is undergoing a slow, rebuilding phase.

The Jets missed the playoffs for the sixth consecutive season, slumping to a 5-11 mark, finishing dead last in the AFC East.

Skrine believes the New York media will hold the Jets accountable, and won't let the organization fight through a drastic makeover.

"Because y'all will eat us up," Skrine said via ESPN's Rich Cimini. "Ain't no rebuilding here. It's getting right to the point. This is a competing team. We still have the players to compete."

Skrine also provided head coach Todd Bowles with a vote of confidence. Bowles led the Jets to a 10-6 record in his first season with the team, but last year marked a somewhat surprising decline.

"I know Coach Bowles, when he says something, he means it," Skrine said. "We'll probably be one of the most organized teams in the league. We're a young team. When you have a younger team, you can tailor your team exactly how you want it to be. I think that's how they want it to be. I think we're going to have a good year."

Armed with the sixth overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft, the Jets possess some capital to improve their team. Much to Skrine's chagrin, however, the Jets appear to have plenty of work ahead before becoming a viable playoff contender.
