Former 1st-rounder Meachem runs 4.58-second 40 at Tennessee's pro day

Robert Meachem's comeback attempt doesn't seem as dubious as once believed.

Meachem was initially jailed for 30 days in February, due to missing alimony and child support payments. However, a judge ruled Meachem's sentence would end if he paid $100,000 of his outstanding debt, and the former New Orleans Saints wide receiver was promptly released after doing so.

The 32-year-old participated in Tennessee's pro day in hopes of securing a professional contract offer - an unorthodox move for a veteran player - and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.58 seconds on Friday.

Meachem was selected in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Saints, helping New Orleans win its lone Super Bowl in franchise history in the 2009 season. The veteran wideout last played during the 2014 season.
