Lions owner looking to sell team

BC Lions owner David Braley is looking to cash out on the franchise he's owned since 1997.

"A sale could occur this year, next year, or the year after," he said in a video posted by the Lions.

Braley, 75, has been one of the CFL's most visible and reliable owners since he inherited the Lions, but deteriorating health has led him to search for the team's next owner.

"There are several people interested," he said. "They're having meetings with me, having discussions about how they would run it."

Braley added he's under "no duress" to sell the franchise, and said the Lions are in "good shape" financially. Braley also noted he prefers to sell the franchise to a local buyer.

"I will make sure the franchise is transferred to somebody who'll look after it the way I would," he said.
