Eastern Washington announced Wednesday that assistant Shantay Legans has been promoted to head coach on a permanent basis.

Legans takes over for Jim Hayford, who was unveiled as Seattle's new head coach earlier in the day.

"Shantay has been an integral part of our recent success and he will do a fantastic job leading us into the future," athletic director Bill Chaves said in a news release.

Eastern Washington is coming off a 22-12 season that ended in a first-round exit in the CBI tournament.
