Report: UMass to hire Chattanooga's Matt McCall as head coach

After being spurned at the altar, UMass reportedly has its man now, as the Minutemen have hired Matt McCall as head coach, sources told Pete Thamel of SI.com.

McCall, who coached Chattanooga for two seasons and took the Mocs to the NCAA tournament in 2016, comes in after Winthrop head coach Pat Kelsey backed out of his agreement to take UMass' top job.

The 35-year-old McCall spent four years as an assistant at Florida under former coach Bill Donovan and current head man Mike White from 2011-2015.

UMass is coming off of two straight losing seasons, after making the NCAA tournament in 2014, marking the first time in 16 years the Minutemen earned a berth.
