Jerry Jones sets training camp deadline for decision on Romo

At league meetings on Tuesday, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the deadline for a decision on quarterback Tony Romo is set for training camp, according to Tom Pelissero of USA TODAY Sports.

Jones didn't comment on whether he believes Romo will continue to play or opt for retirement, but said, "He's really doing great, He's got a lot of options."

Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said that the team is "working through" the situation, but admitted "nothing has really changed since the end of the season," according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert.

Romo reportedly believes he will either play for the Houston Texans or retire next season, once he moves on from the Cowboys.

Given Romo's $24.7-million cap hit in 2017, it's unlikely the Cowboys find a trade partner for the veteran quarterback. While he carries a $19.6-million dead cap hit, the Cowboys would gain $5.1 million in cap space if they release him.
