Denver Broncos head coach Vance Joseph knows Demaryius Thomas is a special player and he wants to be reminded of that constantly.

Heading into his first season as coach of the Broncos, Joseph sent a challenge to Thomas from the league meetings Tuesday.

"I want 88 to be a dominant player all the time," Joseph told Jarrett Bell of USA TODAY. "I don’t want him to ease into games. I want him to be a guy to step out. It’s time."

Though Thomas had 1,083 yards, 90 catches, and five touchdowns last season, the results were the lowest output he's had since 2011. Joseph wants to see more consistent production given Thomas' elite skill set.

"He can take over a game," said Joseph. "But I want his mindset, every game we play, to walk on the field and take over the game. OK?

"Running the football will force (defenses) to load the box and give him one-on-one opportunities. I want him to win every one-on-one. I want him to become a leader of our football team."
