Tisch: Kraft told me Giants would have beaten Patriots in Super Bowl

Robert Deutsch / USA TODAY Sports

Might it be fair to assume that Robert Kraft still has nightmares about the pair of Super Bowls his New England Patriots dropped at the hands of the New York Giants?

Asked for his thoughts on the 2016 season at this week's owners meetings, Giants co-owner Steve Tisch revealed what Kraft had told him shortly after New England captured its fifth Lombardi Trophy this year.

In short, the Patriots owner wanted nothing to do with the Giants on the big stage.

"I could not have been happier," Tisch said, according to James Kratch of NJ Advance Media. "But would I have liked to have gone deeper in the playoffs? Of course. Would I have liked to have ended up in Houston, absolutely. Especially because Bob Kraft, after the Super Bowl, told me, 'You would've beat us.' That made me feel good. That was a nice compliment."

Confident in his team's direction after getting back to the playoffs for the first time since Super Bowl XLVI, Tisch agreed with Kraft's assessment.

"Bob and I are very close," he added. "When I heard that, I agree with him."

With the Patriots and Giants boasting two of the league's most complete rosters, a third title matchup between the two sides seems very much on the table looking ahead to February.
