Yadier Molina said last week it'd be "awesome" to spend his entire career in St. Louis, and it appears increasingly likely that will happen, as the 34-year-old catcher is reportedly making major progress in extension talks with the Cardinals, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

The terms being discussed aren't yet known, but Cardinals chairman Bill Dewitt said Monday that the club is "prepared to make a significant offer" to re-sign Molina, a two-time World Series champion who's earned seven All-Star nods and eight Gold Glove awards throughout his illustrious, 13-year career in St. Louis.

"We'd love to have him stay," DeWitt said.

Molina, who's set to make $14 million this season in the final guaranteed year of a five-year, $75-million deal, recently insinuated he might cut off discussions with the Cardinals if an extension isn't reached before Opening Day.

"Hopefully we can get it done before the opening starts," Molina said. "After the opening, I don’t know what's going to happen. We’ve got one more week to talk about it. And then after that I’m going to concentrate on my game. Whatever they want to do. Like I’ve said: I want to stay here. But if they don’t want to spend money I understand that, too. This is a business. I’m going to try and concentrate on myself.”
