UCLA's TJ Leaf declares for draft, intends to sign with agent

It appears Lonzo Ball isn't the only UCLA player that will depart after just one season with the program, as freshman forward TJ Leaf has declared for the 2017 NBA Draft.

"This was a huge decision for me and my family," Leaf said in a statement, as relayed by Brian Hamilton of Sports Illustrated. "It was definitely one of the hardest decisions in my life. I have decided to declare for the NBA draft with the intent of hiring an agent. I just want to thank everyone at UCLA. The fans were amazing and made for a great year."

Signing with an agent would effectively end Leaf's NCAA career.

The 6-10 freshman played an instrumental role in making UCLA's offense one of the most lethal in the country this season, averaging 16.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists over 29.9 minutes.

Leaf's versatility has him listed as a first-round pick on many mock drafts across the nation, thanks to an outstanding 62 percent clip from the field and 47 percent shooting from long range.

"TJ had such a great season for us, and I completely support his decision to pursue his dream," head coach Steve Alford said. "I'm proud of what he was able to accomplish this season. He brought so much to our teams, both on and off the court, and we're certainly going to miss him."

His departure leaves another gaping hole in UCLA's starting lineup, after Ball, a potential No. 1 pick, declared immediately after the team was eliminated from the NCAA tournament.

The Bruins will also lose seniors Bryce Alford and Isaac Hamilton to graduation, meaning they'll be down their top four point producers.
