Wind was players' biggest test on Day 2 of WGC-Match Play

A different Austin Country Club greeted players for Day 2 of the WGC-Match Play, with winds gusting up to 35 mph.

"It's a completely different day than it was yesterday" Matthew Fitzpatrick told Steve Sands of the Golf Channel after defeating Chris Wood 4&2. "Yesterday, you could be aggressive, a lot less wind. Whereas today, it's all about hitting fairways and greens."

One player loving the conditions because of the match play format was Phil Mickelson, who crushed Daniel Berger 5&4 to move to 2-0 in Group 14.

"I think it's fun, and it's great for match play because you don't worry about the stroke, it's just relevant to your opponent," Mickelson said after his victory. "You can get aggressive on these holes and take on some of the trouble."

Dustin Johnson also climbed to 2-0 in the event, thanks to a 3&2 victory over Martin Kaymer of Germany. Even with the tour expecting the high winds, and ordering the greens to only be single cut, the world No. 1 said it was still awkward when picking a line to putt on.

"Just on the last hole before this I had a 10-footer that's normally right edge and played it two feet out right and still missed it two feet left. So, it's just very difficult putting."
