Report: Rhode Island's Hurley 'in play' for Georgetown job

Gregory J. Fisher / USA TODAY Sports

Rhode Island head coach Danny Hurley is "in play" for the vacant Georgetown job, a source close to the process told Mike DeCourcy of Sporting News.

Hurley has been with the Rams for five seasons, posting a 125-95 record over that span. The 44-year-old led Rhode Island to the NCAA tournament this year, the program's first March Madness appearance since 1999, and an upset over No. 6 Creighton in the first round.

Georgetown is in the market for a new coach after parting ways with John Thompson III earlier Thursday. Thompson spent 13 seasons at the helm of the Hoyas before being let go.

Though Hurley is supposedly in the mix, former Georgetown star and NBA assistant coach Patrick Ewing is reportedly expected to be a top candidate for the position as well.
