Report: Saints close to deal with Manti Te'o

The New Orleans Saints are close to reaching a deal with free-agent linebacker Manti Te'o, and a contract could be signed by Tuesday, ESPN's Dan Graziano reports.

Along with A.J. Klein, formerly of the division-rival Carolina Panthers, Te'o would be the second addition to the linebacker corps in what's already been a busy offseason for the Saints.

The former second-round pick was unable to live up to expectations across four years with the now-former San Diego Chargers, and his 2016 season was brought to an early end when he suffered a torn Achilles in Week 3.

His most productive showing over that stretch came in 2015, where he recorded 83 tackles, one interception, and 0.5 sacks while starting all 12 of his appearances.

If indeed signed, Te'o would presumably have the opportunity to compete for starting reps at inside linebacker in training camp.
