Keeping up with the Jones: 5 comparably nuts HR-robbing grabs

On Saturday night, after the United States secured a spot in the championship round of the World Baseball Classic with a wild 6-3 victory over the Dominican Republic, Christian Yelich remarked that Adam Jones' spectacular seventh-inning grab that took a home run away from Manny Machado, his longtime teammate in Baltimore, "might be the coolest catch I've seen."

He's a little bit biased, though.

Don't get me wrong: Jones' catch was certifiably nuts. But there have been plenty of comparably bonkers, home-run-depriving catches in recent years. This is the Statcast era, man. Defense is in these days. Don't believe me? Just watch.

Mike Trout, Part I

Remember back in 2012, when we used words like "precocious" to describe Los Angeles Angels rookie Mike Trout? Little did we know, a half-decade ago, that plays like this one would become par for the course for the now two-time MVP.

Go-Go says No-No

Before the irascible veteran became something of a reclamation project, Carlos Gomez was considered one of baseball's elite defenders in center field - as evidenced by this game-ending larceny on an ostensible two-run home run from Joey Votto at Miller Park.

Mike Trout, Part II

Oh, look, it's Mike Trout making another impossible play - this time, to rob Leonys Martin of a grand slam at Safeco Field. Lol.

How 'bout that Clark Kent?

They call him Superman in Toronto these days, but back in April of 2015, Kevin Pillar was just an anonymous left fielder trying to open some eyes. He did that with this physics-defying grab that stole a homer from Tim Beckham.

Mike Trout, Part III

This freaking guy, man. What else is there to say? He's not human. Not even a little bit.
