Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa is slated for a spell on the treatment table with a knee injury.

The Bavarian behemoth confirmed a left knee ailment for Costa on Friday with a statement on its website, adding that the 26-year-old is certain to miss Sunday's trip to mid-table Borussia Monchengladbach.

Bayern's announcement adds that Costa has withdrawn from the Brazil squad for upcoming World Cup qualifying clashes with Uruguay and Paraguay.

"The 26-year-old will remain at the Sabener Strasse for treatment by the Bayern medical unit," the statement read.

Injuries have sidetracked Costa's second season with Bayern after he appeared in 27 Bundesliga matches and 11 Champions League fixtures in his debut campaign. A pair of hamstring concerns have seen the Gremio product omitted from the team sheet on eight occasions.

The left-winger has started just a dozen league matches this season for Carlo Ancelotti, and without a timetable for his return, it's likely that he'll miss more than Sunday's North-Rhine Westphalia visit.

Joining Costa in the stands will be Arturo Vidal, who is ineligible for the last Bundesliga match before the international break for an accumulation of yellow cards. The Chile international picked up his fifth cautioning during last week's victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.
