Indiana coach Tom Crean defended his program Tuesday, after the Hoosiers suffered a loss in Round 1 of the NIT that officially brought their disappointing campaign to an end.

"The program is in great shape," Crean told reporters following the 75-63 defeat to Georgia Tech, according to Jeff Rabjohns of Scout.

Crean has been heavily criticized this season as Indiana struggled to an 18-16 record. His future in Bloomington rests in the hands of Indiana officials, who must decide if the past nine years of service warrants a 10th.

"I don't think you win two championships in four years if the program isn't in great shape," Crean added.

The 50-year-old is under contract for another three seasons. His deal contains a buyout clause worth $4 million, although that figure drops to $1 million come July 1.

"No matter what's on a contract, I'm going to coach the same way," Crean said. "Whether its one year or 10."
