Kemba Walker shouts out Michigan's Derrick Walton for emulating performance in NCAA tournament

Brett Davis / USA TODAY Sports

History may be repeating itself to some extent, with the way Michigan has played of late, starting back in the Big Ten conference tournament and now after two rounds of the NCAA tournament.

After winning four games in four days to win the Big Ten tournament, the Wolverines have won their first two games of the NCAA tournament, taking down No. 2 seed Louisville on Sunday.

That is similar to what UConn did in 2011, when it won five games in five days to win the Big East tournament, behind the impressive play of Kemba Walker, who averaged 26 points in those five games.

UConn then rode that momentum to a national championship, thanks again to Walker, as the guard averaged an impressive 23.5 points in six games.

Now, Michigan is hoping to replicate that same success, thanks to their Kemba Walker, in the likes of guard Derrick Walton Jr.

During the Big Ten tournament and through the first two games of the NCAA tournament, Walton has averaged 19.7 points, as Michigan gets set to take on No. 3 seed Oregon in the Sweet 16.

On Sunday, Walton responded to a video on Twitter of him making a step-back jumper, saying he took it out of the Kemba Walker book, only to have Walker himself respond a few days later.

Walton may not be scoring at the same rate Walker was back in 2011, nor has Michigan accomplished what UConn ultimately did. However, after what the Wolverines have overcome by winning the Big Ten tournament just five days after their plane skidded off the runway, the impressive play of Walton and winning their first two games of the NCAA tournament, is worth watching.
