Report: Daniel requests release from Eagles after Foles signing

Bill Streicher / USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles have a new backup quarterback, making their former backup expendable.

The Eagles brought Nick Foles back into the fold Monday morning, and as a result, Chase Daniel has asked to be released. That request is expected to be granted at some point Monday, a source informed ESPN's Adam Caplan.

Daniel signed a three-year, $21-million contract last offseason to join coach Doug Pederson in Philadelphia. He comes with an expensive cap hit of $8 million for the next two seasons, however.

The 30-year-old's representatives will work with the Eagles to retool his contract in an attempt to come to "mutually beneficial" terms, ESPN reports.

The market remains strong for both starting and backup quarterbacks.
