The New England Patriots signed cornerback Stephon Gilmore to a five-year, $65-million contract with $40 million guaranteed, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Gilmore was considered one of the best cornerbacks available in this year's class and is now among the highest-paid players at his position.

The 26-year-old spent the first five seasons of his career with the Buffalo Bills after being selected 10th overall in the 2012 NFL Draft.

He featured as the Bills' premier cornerback during his tenure with the club and will now be paired opposite second-team All-Pro Malcolm Butler.

Gilmore recorded 48 tackles, 12 pass deflections, and five interceptions over 15 games with the Bills in 2016, earning his first Pro Bowl selection.
